Science Method Scientists (a reflection)

In today's class session, we had the opportunity to introduce ourselves in our fieldwork groups as well as present our scavenger hunt findings. We had the task last week to create a Flipgrid. Flipgrid was a form of technology that was introduced to me in this class. Flipgrid allows you to record a video and upload it to a group created by the classroom teacher. Once you finish recording yourself, you are instructed to take a selfie and then can design it with stickers! This form of technology is fairly easy to use and personally, I am very excited to have this in my tool belt to use in the future! As I mentioned, we were directed to create a flipgrid to present to our class as well as our fieldwork students. We had to include the following in our flipgrid: Show or describe a talent that we have Share your favorite science memory A question for our fieldwork students related to science Not only was creating the flipgrid exciting, it was interesting to learn e

Today was the first day of our Science and Technology Methods Course. For the warm up activity, we were given time and told to draw a scientist. There were no rules that we had to follow, we just were to draw what came to mind when we thought of a scientist. Below you can see my drawing. In my drawing, you can see common scientific materials such as beakers, test tubes and a microscope. My scientist, Dr. Gneiss, is wearing a tie-dye lab coat, similar to the one my high school chemistry teacher wore. Once we finished drawing, we all got up and walked around the classroom to observe our peer's drawings. Below is a list of what I observed; Everyone drew the gender that they are Most scientists had the title doctor Most scientists had glasses or goggles Most had lab coats Beakers, test tubes or microscopes were used in most drawings All but one were inside a lab Most of which I listed above are to be considered the typical stereotype of a scientist. Not all scientis
